Cabinet Reshuffle News

Women in the Cabinet are as follows (in order of announcement):
  • Nicky Morgan has been appointed Education Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities
  • Liz Truss has been appointed Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
  • Esther McVey will be attending Cabinet in her existing role as Minister of State at the Department for Work and Pensions
  • Baroness Stowell has been appointed Leader of the House of Lords and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster
  • Anna Soubry is promoted to Minister of State at Ministry of Defence
  • Claire Perry has been appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport
  • Priti Patel has been appointed Exchequer Secretary at the Treasury
  • Amber Rudd has been appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change
  • Penny Mordaunt has been appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government
Each and every one are there on merit and we congratulate all of them.

Last - but not least - many congratulations go to Dr Thérèse Coffey who is now in the Whips Office.

After the reshuffle, 29% of the Cabinet are women and it's the first time in history that both Conservative and Labour Leaders in the House of Lords are women.
