Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband

A new production of Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband is currently being performed at the Vaudeville Theatre in the Strand, with a stellar cast, including Edward Fox and his son Freddie (pictured above) along with other stalwarts of British theatre such as Susan Hampshire, Frances Barber and Nathaniel Parker (pictured below).

The play revolves around the political career and marriage of Sir Robert Chiltern (played by Parker) who in an attempt to buy off the adventuress Mrs Cheveley (played by Barber) risks both his proto-suffragist wife's rejection and an even bigger political scandal. There are delicious analogies with modern politics, Wilde's exquisite language and performances of brio and bravado that have the audience chortling and giggling throughout. And Mrs Cheveley's costumes are a total tour de force.
